For this week’s journal entry, I would like you to familiarize yourself with Open Secrets (www.opensecrets.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.)–a website that provides a wealth of information related related to the role of money in politics. If this website piques your interest, you might also want to check out the Sunlight Foundation (http://sunlightfoundation.com/projects/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.), although that is not required for this assignment. I’ve pasted a small sample of provocative links from Open Secrets below–please check them out–but I expect you to go beyond these links and explore the site on your own.http://www.opensecrets.org/overview/index.php (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.2012 Stats at a Glancehttps://www.opensecrets.org/overview/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. 2014 Election Overviewhttp://www.opensecrets.org/overview/incumbs.php (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. Citizens UnitedAs I said, Open Secrets has a lot of great data related to the influence of money on our political process. The numbers are still coming in for the 2016 election, but please play around with the data and find out what you can learn. In your journal response, I would like you to reflect on the information that you come across while on the website. What did you learn? What surprised you? What angered you? What frustrated you? What confused you? What coincides with the reading? What deviates from the reading? Etc. Please be specific and show me that you actually engaged with these websites and did the reading. Shallow journal responses will be penalized–I want specifics. I hope you appreciate the wealth of information on these sites. Don’t forget the 300 word minimum.
